Good In The Hay

Life at the pace of nature

Restoring Land, Home, and Self

Good in the Hay is a record of restoring land, home, and self as told through real projects, quiet observations, and the ongoing work at Naturerest.

This is not a guide to doing more.
It is an invitation to do what matters, with more attention.

Here you will find:

  • restoration projects in progress
  • reflections shaped by the work
  • and a slower way of approaching both land and life

If something here resonates, you are welcome to follow along.

How We Approach Restoration

Mold and fungus are growing on the window frame, highlighting moisture issues in a dimly lit indoor space. This indicates poor ventilation and potential health risks

Restoring What Is Already Here

This is not about starting over.
It is about noticing what can be saved, what can be softened, and what can be brought back to life with care.

Across the property, each project begins the same way—with attention.
Looking closely. Understanding what exists. Deciding what deserves to remain.

Follow along as spaces are slowly restored, not replaced.

Work in Progress

The work is always underway.

In the kitchen, cabinets recovered from a nearby project have been brought back into use. The ceiling has been refinished to carry more light. Moulding—some new, some reclaimed—has been layered together to create something that feels lived in rather than newly made. The original farm sink has been restored and returned to its place.

Elsewhere, the land continues to evolve—pond, woods, trails, and quiet edges that are still being understood.

Nothing is rushed.
Everything is becoming.

A Different Pace

This work does not follow urgency.

It moves with the seasons, with the land, and with the understanding that not everything needs to be finished quickly to be done well.

Some days are productive.
Some days are observational.
Some days are still.

That balance is part of the process.
